Help Us Stop the Gregadoo Data Centre

A $15 billion, 1.4 GW data-centre proposal is being assessed for Gregadoo, Wagga Wagga, and we need your help to stop it.

What's Proposed

A $15 billion hyperscale data-centre campus is proposed for Gregadoo on Ashfords Road, on the outskirts of Wagga Wagga.The 24/7 facility would contain four massive single-storey buildings, each approximately the size of a supermarket distribution centre, with a proposed maximum power demand of 1.4 gigawatts (GW).But the proposal is far more than four buildings.It includes:* 384 backup diesel generators
* Approximately 6,400 tonnes of diesel storage
* Two large-scale batteries
* Major electrical infrastructure and a new grid connection
* Extensive cooling infrastructure
The site is council-owned land immediately beside the Gregadoo landfill, and currently designated RU1 Primary Production under the Wagga Wagga Local Environmental Plan 2010 not industrial land.But this isn't an isolated rural location.The proposed facility is less than 5 km from some of neighbouring Lake Albert's most populated areas, which including a retirement village, disability services, primary and secondary schools, a child care centre, along with the new proposed Rowan subdivision — a major residential development which will include thousands of homes.So what could that mean for the surrounding community and the local environment?Keep reading to learn why we're concerned.
